I want to know what it feels like to have a book published on Amazon. I’ve been debating this for so long now, and I’ve been working on it for so long now, I really need to see this happen. I want to know it’s like. I want everyone to know that I’ve accomplished this. I want to put it out there, like it matters. To put it out there for the world and everyone to judge me on it. Tell me if it sucks, tell me if they like it, tell me if it’s great or not so great. It doesn’t really matter which. As, long as I get it out there, and tell everyone about it, and let them tell everyone about it. That would be totally cool. I might be surprised at the reaction of the people that see it. Sure, I know it won’t be all that great for a first a attempt. But, it will be a first attempt, and, that’s great by anyone’s measure. Certainly by mine. I can say, I’ve written a novel, and for the first time in generations, I have a real chance to have that novel read by others, and paid for by others, and maybe, even liked by others. And, so what if they don’t like this one. Someone may just as well like the next one. And, forever, you have a product you can sell, that is uniquely yours. That’s the difference this time. You actually build something of value first, that can forever be promoted. As long, as there are people that read books, and there’s no reason to believe, that that will ever go away, you have a chance to promote this. People love stories, people need to hear and tell stories. It’s how we’re wired. We need the story experience on multiple levels. I know, I do. I like most of my stories through television shows. Like, the Sons of Anarchy season 6, that I just finished last night. And, oh my goodness, what a season finale that was. They killed off two of the main characters that have been there since the beginning. Tara and Clay are now both dead. I sort of had the sense, that Tara was doomed part way through this season, given the stuff she was trying to get away with. But, when Jackson finally saw it her way, and was willing to sacrifice everything for her, I started to believe maybe things would work out for her. It is really an excellent show, when it comes to keeping the main character knee deep in shit. I thought, wow, if Jackson goes to jail, then where does the series go from there. I suppose, they could have broken him out, and done a season with him on the run, and always operating under cover. But, his character really is more important then Tara’s and it made more sense from a continuity stand point, to write her out, then him obviously. The show still moves along without her, but there’s no way it moves along without him. Although, as a story writer, I shouldn’t say that. There’s always some twisted way to make a story work, no matter what you do to your main characters. No matter who lives, and who dies. No matter what situation you put them into. That’s something, I still need to become braver doing. Don’t be afraid to make things hard on your main character. That’s where all the fun is. Sure, it can be tougher from a writers perspective, but it’s so much more rewarding when you workout how things move on from a difficult position. And definitely more rewarding for the reader. I could take a lesson for SOA about keeping my main character in lots of shit. They manage to do it so well, and make it believeable. I think there’s something to learn for the story telling of every show. Whether it’s the super creativity of Dr. Who, or the relationship building and tearing down of the brothers in Supernatural. There’s always something you can learn. And then there’s Game of Thrones, where there’s just so much going on, and so many sub plots to think about. And definitely, that’s a story, where it goes to show, that you can kill off whoever you like, if you have enough other characters to step up into the spotlight. Even minor characters, can become interesting when you flesh them out more. Especially, when you already have some back story on them to start with.
