Morning Pages Entry – January 16, 2014

So here we go again with another writing day. This will be 4 in a row writing another 100+ words on my novel. Yesterday, I did 1500+ words in under an hour. That’s pretty cool. I think the journaling I’ve been doing here has absolutely helped in my writing speed. I think I was doing only about 1200 words per hour, when I was writing the novel a bit over the summer. But 1500 is pretty cool for an our. That means, with a little bit of pushing, I would bet I can get to the 5000 word mark within three hours down the road. Not three straight hours, although that could happen once in a while. But three seperate sessions of under an hour to get say close to 1700 words each, that would give me 5000 words for the day … every day. That would get me well on my way to a novel a month. My goal, would be to match the output of someone like Elle Cassey when it comes to the writing. If I could get to there, that means I could pretty much work half days when up at the boat this summer. Spend my mornings doing some writing, then spend the rest of the after noon working on the boat, or perhaps doing some sailing. That would be pretty sweet. Then the evenings could be a bit more writing, or whatever. Do my little body weight workouts, while walking down the beach, and I’d be pretty set for good. How cool would that be? So, any ways, time to get thinking on where to go with the story today. As an aside, I think my current chapter is getting pretty long, and I’m going to have to find a way to logically break things up a bit. I have a sneaking feeling, that the original book I outlined, is really going to end up being about 3 books. At least with the amount of verbage I’m kicking out per scene. The prologue, which I thought was going to be a quick entry to the story, I think has now gotten over or close to 10,000 words. That’s a short novel by some peoples standards. I really need to do some more reading on how to be a better writer. Any ways, back to our story line. I left the novel yesterday, with our heroes working their way up the bridge, letting the pigs distract the zombies, while they hugged the guardrail and moved along up the bridge, getting closer and closer to the end of the bridge where they could dash into the woods and hopefully outrun the zombies. At one point things get pretty dire, but Christa wakes up, and they set her down, giving her a knife, with the hopes she can pitch in and help them fight towards their goal. Doesn’t quite work out that way, as she still seems to terrified to write. Then finally at one point, she disappears into the crowd. And that’s where I left it. With Alex realizing she’s gone, and Chaz not overly concerned about it. Which, should piss off Alex quite a bit. They will probably have a bit of a heated discussion. Then, perhaps point of view should change to Christa, wandering through the mob, teriffied out of her skin, but remaining untouched by the zombie mob. She ( or maybe the boys ?) will discover, and perhaps start to make their way towards her, as the mob seems to be leaving space around her for no apparent reason. They make their way their, thinking they’ll have room to fight, without realizing, it’s Christa creating the buffer. Something about her feelings, and the way she’s moving through the crowd has suddenly created this protective zone around her, that’s keeping the zombies away. Her incredible fear or something else perhaps triggered the buffer. It would be enough to get them to the woods, but it may dissipate at some point. Perhaps, she’s in some sort of trance, and doesn’t even realize that she’s doing it. She eventually collapses at the end of the bridge, or when they’re safe in the woods, and we don’t know why. Maybe have her show signs of sickness or disease as she’s leading them from the bridge in the trance. Leave something to the readers imagination, that perhaps she’s reverting back to zombie form or something. Don’t be to specific, I want the event to be somewhat mysterious. We’ll figure out an explanation later.
