Morning Pages Entry – March 27, 2014

Well, here we go today, with a slightly perspective. Physical perspective, not a mental one. I’m actually writing this from the love seat in the upstairs living room. Something a little different. Only the second time, I haven’t written my journal page in the basement office, and that’s kind of ok. I was getting a bit tired of that cold basement office during this long winter. So, I figured I’d do a little bit of writing from a room with a view so to speak. A bit of practice with the laptop, to see how it is working, and perhaps get a bit trained up for working on the boat. I’m thinking, that maybe away from the distractions in the old office space, I’ll get a bit more done. I do think, that this is a faster keyboard anyways. We’ll see, how many words I manage to get up to per minute here. And, perhaps, I can get a bit more work on the novel done today. All the words I wrote for it yesterday, were from the laptop up here in the living room. So, we’ll see. Anyways, I’m thinking as well, that this laptop is a little bit flaky. It seems to be kinda slow and irratic. I really should probably upgrade the hard drive in it to be a ssd drive, like the one I put into the desktop computer downstairs. I’m sure, that Sam would appreciate it, and if I’m going to have this thing all summer, then anything that makes me a bit more productive is a good thing. So, perhaps, today, I will also get a few more words done on the novel from this upstairs office, and the slightly faster keyboard. We’ll see, what happens. It’s certainly a little more comfy, then my sit down / stand up stool downstairs. I may have to take some time with the down stairs stool at some point, but we’ll see where that goes. So, let’s talk a bit, about where the novel is at right now. I’m currently in the midst of having Chaz desert his platoon, and go looking for his family, in the new intro to the book. I want to show Chaz as broken, and giving up on the whole zombie war, and life in general. He will get stronger come the end of the book, so that will be his character arch. But right, now, I seem to be writing a shitload of “brain dump” sort of stuff on the background story for the book. I need to work it a bit better (a lot better actually) into events happening in the story. I’ve come up with some interesting background story elements I think, but I can’t just unload it all like a textbook chapter, which is what I have been doing. Maybe a bit more interaction with the characters (soldier Jones) in his army camp to reaveal some of it before going would be in order. Then, perhaps maybe have him pick up some hitchhiker (freak hugging nut) along the way to Atlanta. That could be fun. He should probably engage in a bit of action type stuff with the humvee and the turret on top just for fun. Maybe show a darker side of him with that. Could be interseting. Something to get the reader a little bit more hooked. Would, be nice, if you could get a 5000 word day in here as well. It’s pretty much the end of March, and you haven’t done much editing on the book, and you’ve added a few scenes, and still need a ending for the book. Get your mind right, and have fun with it, and do some wicked writing. You’ve read a bunch of other stuff, and it’s sort of crazy how much junk is out there, and ranking fairly well in the category lists on Amazon. There’s no reason why, you couldn’t get something half way decent written with some good story elements. Something a little different and out of the ordinary. Something that gives readers a unique view on the genre, and doesn’t just play into the same old traditional stereotypes. About zombies, and end of the world sort of crap. I know I can come up with some good stuff. Just apply yourself, and use your brain there buddy. Anyways, it would be nice to get the intro and the ending of the novel written today, at least in draft form. That would be a huge undertaking, but well worth it, if you can get it done.
