Morning Pages – January 18, 2014

So, here’s a first for me. This is the first time I’m doing my morning journal away from the home office. I’m actually in Milton Ontario at a swim meet. Karen, Jessica, and I drove up Friday, and did a swim meet morning session with Jessica here Saturday. Then, we drove to University of Toronto about 45 minutes away, and watched Samantha swim at the Ontario Cup with a bunch of university teams. It was right in the down town, and had to be one of the longest swim sessions we’ve attended. Warm ups started at 1pm, and the meet didn’t finish until 7pm. Then, we drove back to Milton, found some half way decent food. Or, at least the best you can find in a town like Milton, and took it back to the hotel. The kids are totally exhausted, and I’m a bit on the tired side as well. Not exactly my fun sort of weekend. I am glad to finally find a computer to do my journalling on with a real computer keyboard. I didn’t bring my laptop, and Karen’s laptop has a bunch of security hacks on it, that would allow me to write incongignito, like I am now with the Chrome browser on the machine down here in the hotels business office. Which, is pretty cool, not that I’m doing it. I was really worried for a while, that I was going to miss a day of my journaling, and that hasn’t happen in a while. I’m actually on a 46 day streak. It is a bit later here now, it’s actually like 9:19 in the evening, but hey, at least I’m getting it done and under the wire. Swim meets are such horrendus inventions, I can’t believe I’m still spending so much time here. Doing one over a weekend is bad enough, but this weekend, we’re doing two, and it’s barely more than I can stand. Ah well, at least the weather has been good, and I don’t have to worry about driving through a blizzard. The worst of it is over. We’re out of Toronto, and a bit closer to home. I do really miss my home computer though, and the writing I’ve been doing there. I was really getting a bit panicky, when I thought that perhaps I wasn’t going to get to do my journalling today. Guess I should have made a point of taking the laptop with me. Perhaps, I should upgrade that thing with a proper SSD (solid state drive), so that it’s quicker. Or just get another smaller one for lugging around. Although, a portable keyboard with a table, is not such a bad idea. If I had a keyboard for Jessica’s table, then I could have written on that. Just need something light but functional in terms of what the keyboard is. The other thing I wanted to comment on, was that I only wrote a thousand words yesterday. Well, a little more, but I was hoping to start cracking 2000+ per day now. Guess this swim meet didn’t help. I likely could have gotten a few extra done yesterday, if I wasn’t heading up to this place. Ah well, I was a little unsure of where to go next with the novel. I mean, the trio of heroes is past the bridge, and about to find some vehicles they can use to get to Fort Knox. I did do a little character building with the little girl and Alex in the conversation they were having about Colonel Chaz. About how he lost his kids and stuff. Christa I think had some good reactions to it, so I guess we did a little bit of character building with her as well. The next step I think, is to skip a bit down the road, and get them to the Fort. I don’t think I want to drag things out too much driving down the road. It doesn’t seem like it would be all that interesting. But at the Fort, then things can get a bit interesting again. Although, maybe they should see some things on the road that get them a bit rattled about the Fort, and build up a bit of tension. That could be interesting. I think, I’m going to stick them in some sort of military vehicle, that they find along the way, just for fun. Would be kind of cool to drive a tank through a pack of zombies or something. A tank would be kinda slow going though. Or would it? Exactly how fast does a tank go. Especially a bit of a futuristic tank . . . hmmmm
