Morning Pages Entry – March 08, 2014

Little bit late getting to the journal today, but none the less, here I am. Yesterday, it was a pretty good day. I got a fair amount of editing done on my novel, but could have done more. I think I have everything properly broken down into scenes now, so it should be much more manageable. Just need to do a bit more cut and pasting. Then, I think I need to go over it scene by scene, and make sure they’re interesting enough, ie. that they have enough conflict in them. I think I was a little bit too nice to my heroes on their adventure, and I think it should be a bit tougher for them. As well, my sequels following the scenes are a little bit lacking. In other words, they aren’t there very often, or certainly not conciously on my part. That’s something I need to work on a bit. Need to put in a few more sequels, to allow my readers to get more attached emotionally to the characters. Once that’s done, I also need to look at the overall structure a bit more. I know I didn’t follow the 7 point structure that I was reading about a couple of weeks ago. I think, I may have incorporated it somewhat just my dumb luck, but need to be more concious of it in my stories. At least the early stories, before I start to expirement. It’s key I think to follow some basic writing rules and structure in the beginning, till I really understand them, then I can make logical justifications for veering away from the rules when it’s appropriate. I also like the idea of some structure and process to get more efficient in my writing. This is not just a creative exercise, it’s a business as well, and I need to be more productive, and to mean, that means having some sort of system or process that I follow. There will always be opportunities to veer from that system, but again, only once I understand and appreciate the system that I’m using. Then, I’m conciuosly making decisions to deviate from the plan, and not just doing it my accident. Not that accidents can’t be fun, and sometimes you have to just go with the flow of things, but for the most part, have a plan and working the plan have to be a good thing. So, enough about the trials of writing, except to say, that I would like to do a bit more editing today if possible. It would be good to have the book in better shape structure wise. I do, need to figure out how to break things down into chapters as well. Right now, it’s one chapter, and a whole bunch of scenes (31 I think). Looking at an overall 7 point structure, will likely help with breaking things into chapters. We’ll see. Also today, I have to play squash with Mark, but am not feeling overly enthused about it at the moment. Not sure, why that is. Mentally I mean. I haven’t driven sam to an early morning practice all week, but I have been sleeping a lot the last few days, which is sort of weird. Not used to getting that much sleep, and I may have over done it a bit. Maybe, I need to eat a few more carbs on my way to squash today. Should likely eat an apple before I leave. Then, perhaps take a banana. Not really sure. Ah well. It has been about 8 or 10 days of clean eating, with no junk food, no extra sugary crap. That’s not really that long, so we’ll see how it goes after a few weeks. That’s when you really know the difference. That’s when things should start to kick in. I am eating more fruits then I did, when I was doing this back in December, but I think, that should be ok. Or not? I don’t know. I also didn’t have the pulled pork option for the evening meal back then. I think, I was mostly just eating the bacon & eggs breakfast and a big ass salad for lunch. Actually, I should check my metadata on this journal site, to see what I was really eating. Ahh cool! Good thing I have it in here. I’m pretty sure, I was keeping track of that back in December. Then I’ll know what was really going on and how I lost a few pounds.
