Morning Pages Entry – June 22, 2014

Hmmmf! Well, what do you do, I actually sold a book. One book. A single copy. It’s both insignificant, and incredibly exciting all at the same time. Sure, my Amazon authors account is now credited with a whopping 35 cents, because the book is priced at 99 cents, and I get a 33% percent comission at that price, but it’s still pretty darn exciting. Actually, it pretty god damn fucking exciting !!! I’m now a selling author. This is so friggin cool. It reminds me of the very first time, that I made money online, with a few adsense clicks. It feels really really really good. Now, here’s to hoping, they don’t leave me some crappy review or something. And, that book will eventually be priced for free, so it’s not a big deal that it’s making any money. But, even with the crappy blurb, and the questionable plot and writing, my first book “Endings” actually made money the first full day it was on sale. That’s just too friggin cool. I guess, I better keep going. It looks like I’ll be putting the next one online this week. And, this one, I definitely need to get some edits done it it. Even if they’re just minor tweaks. It’s pretty damn cool actually. It’s a pretty motivating experience, and I can’t wait for more of them. I really do need to get more books out there. Get this first one set to permafree, and put the next one out. I’m sitting here writing this on my bed at the boat, while everyone sleeps, and wanting to get out and do some paddle boarding this morning, but, it’s so cool that this happened on the first day. Just imagine how you will feel, when you have a hundred books sold per day, or even a thousand, or even more, or hell, even somewhere in between 1 and a thousand. I’ll take all of it. Remember though, through it all to do the work for the love of writing. Just to tell the story. Just to feel how good it is, to put pen to paper and write something interesting. The joy, of coming up with plots twists and turns, and to come up with something cool … making money off of it is just gravy. Necessary gravy, but gravy none the less. If I can pull this off, I truly will be the luckiest guy on the planet. It’s a life changer for sure, but remember, through it all to do it for the love of the work. That’s what will get you back to the keyboard, and creating. That’s the best part of it all. The money is just a means to an end. I gotta say it one more time though … I can’t believe a sold a friggin book!!! That’s just so god damn fricking cool!!! Gotta do it again. It’s gonna be a fun month I think. Time to get the word out there. Time to get that second novel up and running, and get this one set to perma free. Fucking eh! this is fun. I’m actually dying, to get this friggin journal finished, so I can go and look at the book on Amazon, to see if it has other books listed by it as “also bought” by the same people. That’s what you really want. You want your book listed on the “also bought” of other author books. Then, you’ll really have a better chance of taking off. Once you start getting listed there, then word will start to spread. That’s when you start to take off I think. Just, get it up to 10 copies a day, that would be super cool. Or, get your second book up to 10 copies per day, and that would be at a higher price point. It will be priced at 2.99, and I’ll be making 70% commission, so $2 per book. That would be super cool. Sure, it’s only $600 per month, but that’s a frig of a lot better than zero, which is what I’ve been doing so far. That would be pretty interesting. And, that’s with a shitty blurb. A good cover I think, and a so-so story, but still plenty of potential. I so can’t wait to get this thing going. I haven’t even done any basic promoting yet. I need to get that second book up there like soon … so soon. I am so happy about this. I just sold my first story! I don’t know who that buyer is, or where they are, but if I did, I’d give them a big huge hug.
